Survivor Stories: Arts For Awareness (pt. 2)

The following art pieces were made by survivors for our first annual Shattering The Red Zone T-Shirt Art Contest.

Letting myself exist

KAP

The birch tree in this artwork symbolizes life. The duality of the two stems reflects the two sides of a person - light and the shadow. It is a reminder that we all have different facets to our personalities, but we often only show one side to the world while keeping the other hidden. Additionally, the birch tree is known as a pioneer species that grows rapidly in open areas, paving the way for other tree species to follow. This characteristic represents the ability to adapt to new environments and embrace change, which is essential for personal growth and development. The birch tree's resilience and determination are an inspiration to keep pushing forward even in the face of adversity. Although there is still much to be discovered, I am confident that with time, I will uncover more about myself and shed light on the aspects that are still in the dark. Especially the sexual assaults are a big and hidden part of me, which I haven’t shared with many. Through self-reflection and exploration, I will gain a deeper understanding of who I am. Just as the light illuminates the darkness, my journey of self-discovery will bring clarity and insight to my life.
